Jon Dwyer
Jon Dwyer has been in the Art business for nearly thirty years coming from a three generation “Art” family. Jon has a solid working experience with both Australian and International pictures and is widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading art authorities.
Jon spent his formative years with Leonard Joel as Director of Joel’s Painting Department. It was at Joel's that Jon established himself as a leading figure in Australian Art, quickly gaining an enviable reputation. His ability to locate hard-to-find works and his talent for identifying the stars of tomorrow, gained him a loyal following of smart and wealthy Collectors, while on the other side of the ledger Jon has secured sales of Australian Art in the tens of millions of dollars. The special advantage that Jon brings our clients, is that he is skilled and experienced at both buying and selling Art.
Joining Christie’s in the 1990’s Jon headed up their Valuation Department. He was then appointed to Christie’s Board of Directors in 2000 and eventually appointed as Head of Christie’s Australian and International Painting Department. Jon was the senior and skilled auctioneer for Christie’s and has been involved in many fundraising auctions including the National Breast Cancer campaign. A frequent and much sought after public speaker, Jon has enjoyed a wide exposure over many years. Jon has been a regular in Australian media, from a panelist on radio for Antique and Collectible programmes to regularly being the Official Judge at countless Art Exhibitions.
Jon enjoys the highest rating and is an Approved Valuer for the Cultural Gifts Programme for the Australian Federal Government. Jon has also been an Examiner for the Protection of Moveable Heritage. Jon has valued and/or acted as Consultant for many of Australia’s most significant Corporate and Private Collections, as well as acting on behalf of a number of key Australian Public Institutions.
At Christie’s and in early years at Joel’s, Jon was instrumental in many of the record and groundbreaking sales, including the Pyramid Group Collection (1988), Qintex Collection (1988), Rogowski Collection (1988), Mertz Collection (2000), Harold Schenberg Collection (2003), BHP Billiton Collection (2004), Coles Myer Collection (2004), James Bleasal Collection (2005) and Joseph Brown Collection (2005).
Jon has an extensive knowledge of all areas of the Australian Art market from traditional, through to Modern and Contemporary. Jon is frequently called upon by the financial sector for his expertise in market analysis and authentication.
